Fifth Grade News

January started off with great weather and energetic students.

The students jumped back into the swing of things quickly after their Christmas Break.  Here are some things they are busy with throughout the month of January.

In writing class the students were able to use their voice with details while explaining all of their favorite things that happened over the break. They even shared the favorite gifts with their classmates!  In English the students finished off their study of verbs and moved on to pronouns.  In Math the students began working with graphing information.  They will become experts with double bar graphs and histograms.  In Science the students are studying all about the Earth’s water.  In Reading they studied the North and South Poles and completed different activities using the information.

In Social Studies the students are learning about the life of the colonists. They also will study about Martin Luther King Jr. They will listen to his famous speech and draw a picture of him for a drawing contest. In Religion the students are busy studying all about the prophets.

The fifth graders even had time to squeeze in some art even though they were busy with their subjects.  They studied about Pointillism and the technique used by George Seurat in his famous picture the “Sunday in the Park”.  They created their own pointillism picture that will be on display in the Neumann Cafeteria during the Pancake Feed.
