Kindergarten News

Now that we are back into a routine, in Reading we are learning the letters Pp, Ll, Uu.  We are still working on reading and spelling the color words and even have some fun songs to help us remember them.  We have focused a lot of time on our writing skills this month too.  We are now able to write a complete sentence using correct capitalization and punctuation!

In Math, we have continued to work hard writing our numbers 0-12 with the correct formation.  We have also played some fun new games that help us to remember the numbers as well as put them in sequence.  The children have been discovering the concept of adding on to a group, which will help prepare us for addition later on.  We also used Unifix cubes to learn how to make equal groups.  We will end the month introducing the concept of time and money.

In Religion, we have introduced John the Baptist and read the parables: The Prodigal Son and The Unmerciful Servant.  We are now going to mass on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  The children are becoming more and more familiar with our mass routines.  Please continue to practice all prayers.  The children will earn a bead for each prayer they know and hopefully make a special necklace by the end of the school year.

Polar Animals was our theme for the month of January!  After we learned the cardinal directions, the children used their very own compass to travel the globe in search of both the North and South Poles.  Once we arrived at our destinations, we learned all about which animals live in the Arctic and Antarctic regions.  Our science centers were filled with actual Arctic fox and seal pelts, a bear skull, and a reindeer hoof for the kids to observe and feel.  We discovered just how all those animals stay warm in these regions, through a science experiment using Crisco, baggies, and ice water.  Be sure to check out our North and South Pole hallway displays during Catholic Schools Week Open House on February 2nd.

Our January Children of the week are: Sam Edmonds, Kade Cook, Paetra Augusta, Colton Hagemann, Josh Edmonds, Caleb Chvatal, Callie Cantrall
