Dear Parents,
I hope everyone is staying warm and safe throughout this bitterly cold and snowy “long” winter we are having this year! I am sure all of you are looking forward to spring as much as I am. Just recently we had our parent/teacher conferences and I want to thank all the parents for their great attendance at the conferences as well as their continued display of “professionalism” when visiting with the teachers. With how cold it has been it makes it hard for any of us to get outside which in turn can put the best of people on edge. As I have mentioned before and will continue to express, nothing good comes from people getting upset with one another but a lot of good can come from making the best out of a not so good situation. Thank you for your continued efforts to be “professional” when it comes to working with the staff here at St. Wenceslaus. Time and time again you continue to prove why this school is so special.
Our second fundraiser has kicked off and I am going to be very interested to see how we attack it. As we have communicated to all the parents before through numerous notes/letters we expect everyone to profit the school $200 or more each year through our two fundraisers. By doing this we should make a minimum of anywhere from $38,000 to $40,000. This money is vital to the budget set before the school year started to help run the school. It is because of this fundraising that we are able to keep student fees down to the low amount of $850. We sent home statements letting you know where you are at in what you have profited the school thus far. If you have already profited the school $200 I want to extend my appreciation to you for your support but at the same time I hope anyone that has reached that amount is not satisfied to stop there. Remember for every $100 over this amount you get a $25 credit toward your child’s fees for the next school year plus you are continuing to help out the school as a whole. For the parents that have not come close to your $200 family goal it is not too late to meet your obligation. For some I know you cannot just write the school a check to get this accomplished. I want to remind you, this is why we are doing the fundraising and not charging an extra $100-$200 for student fees. If you do not have the money then we are giving you the opportunity to take the time and effort to knock on doors throughout town, call relatives, etc. I know that this takes some work but the other alternative is to charge higher fees. If you have any questions or concerns please give me a call and I would be glad to visit with you.
I would like to finish up with a few comments on the Lenten season that is coming upon us soon with Ash Wednesday on February 17th. This will also mark the start of my Lenten sacrificing and like I do every Lent I am giving up potato chips and snacking in between meals. Anyone that knows me well understands that by giving up both of these it will be very tough on me. Besides sacrificing things that I enjoy I also try and do things that will help me grow in my Catholic faith. By doing this it helps remind me of the unbelievable sacrifice of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. It makes me feel good knowing that we can teach our students on a daily basis just how much God loved us that he gave his only son’s life for us. I would encourage all our school families to use this Lenten season as an opportunity to help your child(ren) grow in their Catholic faith. I hope and pray that by doing this it will make the Lenten season a wonderful spiritual experience for you and your entire family!
Sincerely,
Mike Weiss, Principal
