Second Grade News

Second grade will be very busy from now until Sunday, April 29, preparing to receive two Sacraments!  The students are very excited and anxious for First Reconciliation and First Communion.  We will be taking lots of time in Religion class to prepare the students.  Most of them have done very well when they were tested on prayers.  Thanks to the parents for helping their child learn the “Act of Contrition.”  Please pray for the second graders as they prepare to receive these sacraments.

We are concentrating on learning our math facts.  We are beginning Rocket Math (Mastering Math Facts).  The students each have their own individual goal and are working hard to pass each set.  Any extra help studying at home is most beneficial.

In Science, we are studying dinosaurs.  Each student made a fossil using clay, shells or dinosaurs, and glue.  They were also able to take a virtual tour of a museum to see a dinosaur exhibit.

In Social Studies, the students are learning about goods and services.  They are finding out about the different ways to pay for the goods and services they receive:  cash, checks, and credit cards.  So many 2nd graders were surprised to learn that a person has to have money in the bank if they are going to write a check!  The children are also learning about the choices they can make about earning, spending, and saving money.

Mrs. Schenk and Mrs. Dailey would like to thank Joyce Lanik for her donation to their classrooms.  We would also like to thank the generous families that donated the extra set of leveled readers to our rooms. They are very helpful!
